Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer once said, “I’d rather win one tournament in my life than just make the cut every week." It’s that desire to win that has made him a golfing icon and fan favorite for so many who have followed professional golf through the past six decades. Palmer’s 92 pro victories include seven major titles. He won four Masters (1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964), two British Opens (1961 and 1962) and one U.S. Open (1960). In addition, he finished second in the PGA Championship three times. In a four-year stretch from 1960 to 1963, Palmer won a remarkable 29 titles. He played on six U.S. Ryder Cup teams, serving as captain in 1963 and 1975. He was twice named the PGA Player of the Year and was the leading money winner on tour four times. In his career, Palmer has made an amazing 18 holes-in-one, including three in PGA Tour events, four on the Senior PGA Tour and one in Japan. In his spare time, he has amassed 18,000 hours of time flying airplanes. His numerous business ventures include more than 250 golf course designs in 37 states and 20 countries. 

The King and Big Bertha:

Arnold Palmer joined the Callaway Golf family in 2000; it was a chance encounter with a prototype Callaway Golf Ball that first led him to endorse the brand. Palmer was playing his usual ball at a California desert course when someone tossed him what would become the Rule 35 Golf Ball. "Try this." A few shots (and lengthy drives) later, Palmer knew that this new, three-piece technology would soon change the world of performance golf balls. Before long, golf icons Palmer and Ely Callaway met to discuss The King joining Callaway Golf as a staff professional, and Palmer's trust in the brand extended to club technology.
